Interpreter Data Collection Required in I-Star

Beginning in school year 2023-24, each school district must report the following interpreter information within the Individual Education Plan (IEP)-Student Tracking and Reporting (I-Star) System.   The deadline to enter the data is June 30, 2024.  This data collection applies to all districts, except City of Chicago 299 who will have its own data collection. 

The district will need to complete both Part 1 and 2 for each language.       

 

Part 1:  Each school district must record the following information within the IEP Conference Summary Report and report that anonymously aggregated data at the individual school level to ISBE on an annual basis through I-Star: 

  1. The language for interpretation
  2. Number of requests for an interpreter, previously requested interpretation services, or otherwise indicated that an interpreter was necessary to ensure meaningful parental involvement in the IEP meeting
  3. Number of requests where a qualified interpreter was provided at the IEP meeting
  4. Number of requests from the parent that the interpreter serve no other role in the IEP meeting
  5. Number of requests granted by the district for the interpreter to serve no other role in the IEP meeting 

Part 2:  Additionally, each school district must track the following data and must report that anonymously aggregated data at the individual school level to ISBE on an annual basis through I-Star: 

2A:  Conference Recommendation Form Translations:

  1. Number of translations requested, previously requested services. or otherwise indicated translation was necessary
  2. Number/Percent the translated form was provided
  3. Number/Percent the translated form was provided at the time of the IEP meeting
  4. Average number of school days between the IEP meeting and when the translated form was provided

Example:

2B:  IEP Form Translations:

  1. Number of translations requested, previously requested services, or otherwise indicated translation was necessary
  2. Number/Percent the translated form was provided
  3. Number/Percent the translated form was provided within 30 days of the IEP meeting
  4. Of the IEPs that were translated, the average number of school days between the IEP meeting and when the translated form was provided

 Example: 

Once the reporting has been completed or if there is no data to report, each district must check the “I am done reporting” box or the “Interpreters and/or translators were not requested in my district” box.
