Disability N: DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY: This code may be used only for students ages 3 through 9 who are experiencing delay in physical development, cognitive development, communication development, social or emotional development, or adaptive development. When the student becomes 10 years old, this code becomes an error. Updating this code is accomplished in I-Star by performing an End/Add.

If you are updating a student approval record because the district failed to perform the re-evaluation ON or before the student's 10th birthday, see steps below.

  1. Locate the student whose approval record requires the primary disability update. Click HERE to learn how to search for existing students in your district's I-Star database.
  2. Student approvals that still reflect the primary disability of "N" once the student turns 10 years old will be issued a fatal error.
  3. I-Star users are not permitted to directly update the disability (see below) but a new record can be created utilizing the end/add tool.

4. Locate the student that you wish to update the primary disability for look for the chain link icon

5. Click the chain link and let the end date auto-fill. Pull in any exit code and click "Save".

6. When the new record populates, change the primary disability field immediately. Performing an end/add is the only way to update the primary disability field.

7. Edit the existing date in the begin date box. The begin date should be the student's date of birth UNLESS the re-evaluation was held after the 10th birthday. In that case, the begin date will be the date of the re-evaluation (See further steps below titled "Missed Re-Evaluation)

8. Once the begin date is set, save the record. You will have two records for the student -- one with the fatal error due to the disability of N (if current date is student's birthday) and the record that was just saved.

9. Locate the approval record with the outdated disability and click the red X to delete.

MISSED RE-EVALUATION

If the district fails to hold a re-evaluation to update the student's primary disability and the 10th birthday was passed, the district is not permitted to backdate the updated disability to the day of the 10th birthday.

If the student's 10th birthday has not yet passed, simply perform an end/add as usual. The new record will begin on the date that the student's new primary disability is valid.
